Jimi Hendrix appreciation thread
James Marshall 'Jimi' Hendrix
November 27th, 1942 - September 18th, 1970
One of, if not the best guitarists of all time, Jimi Hendrix inspired many musicians with his innovations in music. The founder of the legendary band The Jimi Hendrix experience and The band of Gypsys, his unique style of playing used a combination of effects such as Wah-wah and amplifier feedback, combined with speed paved the way for hard rock and Heavy Metal. His legendary preformances at the 1969 Woodstock festival and The Isle of Wright festival are considered some of the best live guitar preformances ever. His unique style of using an upside down backwars right-handed guitar helped defined his sound.
Being a very prolific recorder, he released 4 original studio albums with 7 released postumusly and over 300 unreleased records. With singles like Voodoo Child (slight return), Hey joe, Little wing, Purple haze, Machine gun, Wild thing, All along the watchtower, Sunshine of your love, Are you experienced, The wind cries mary and many others, he has become one of the most decorated and celebrated musicians ever, having many of his songs charting highly on many 'Greatest' list such as Guitar World's readers voted six of Hendrix's solos among the top "100 Greatest" of all time: "Purple Haze" (70), "The Star-Spangled Banner" (52), "Machine Gun" (32), "Little Wing" (18), "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" (11) and "All Along the Watchtower (5). In 1992 he was awarded The Grammy Lifetime achievement award and that same year inducted into the rock 'n' roll Hall of Fame.
